Squirmy Worms
The Squirmy Worm is a fly originating from the USA, based on a relatively new material made of an incredibly stretchy, rubbery substance.
The material is thick, heavy, available in a wide range of colors, and extremely mobile.
You’ll be hard-pressed to find a worm imitation as realistic or effective as the Squirmy.
On the right day, it’s a truly effective pattern to try.
The Squirmy Worm was originally used on rivers in the USA for brown and rainbow trout.
It’s just as effective here, especially for river grayling, in pink and red depending on water color.
It’s great for big perch and roach too.
Cast it upstream and retrieve the line as the worm drifts back towards you in the current.
In rivers, I find it works best with a bead to help the material sink a bit better, which also seems to slightly improve the action.
